Get Involved

We are always looking for people to help us out in our mission to promote science in a fun and fabulous way. If you think your school may be interested in hosting a Triple S science fair, or if you would like to become a science fair stall holder, please read the information below.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please contact us. Your suggestions will be welcome.

Science Fair Hosts

The organising committee of Triple S is always interested in new schools to host the coming Fairs.

As well as promoting science and technology to your own students and your local community, the Fairs offer an excellent way to promote your school and its Science, Mathematics and Technology Departments. One of the most pleasing aspects of recent Fairs has been the show-casing of science project work of the host school’s students.

Fascinating displays, experiments and hands-on activities in a wide range of science disciplines are provided by Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, the University of Western Australia, Department of Industry & Technology, Scitech Discovery Centre, and other groups.

To host a Science Fair you need to provide access to a double school gymnasium or similar sized local venue. We anticipate providing space for 30 - 40 interactive displays.

We are seeking an expression of interest initially, so if you think that your school may be interested in hosting a Science Fair, please contact us for preliminary details.

Science Fair Stall Holders

Triple S is always very pleased to have new stall holders participating in the fairs. All of our stallholders find the evenings very enjoyable.

Guidelines for Stall-holders

1. Safety first

When organising your stand please put the safety of the public as your highest priority. People using hazardous materials e.g. liquid nitrogen, acids, bases etc. should make sure that they are not accessed by the general public. If your stand is a wet area please make sure the floor is kept dry. Noise levels of demonstrations need to be monitored.

2. Relating to the Public

  • There is gender bias in the sciences (females in biological sciences, males in physical sciences). Please try to encourage equal gender participation in the sciences when speaking with the patrons.
  • Try to keep the technical jargon to a minimum. In this way science will be seen to relate to the world around us.
  • Triple S is trying to counter the image of “the mad scientist” so unless you really need it leave your lab coat at home but please wear your nametag. Scientists need to be seen as approachable people, doing a wide variety of interesting jobs.

3. Logistics on the Night

  • The science fairs will be held at high schools so try to make yourselves as self reliant as possible - bring your own power boards, extension cords and display stands. Be aware there may be problems with access, so if you have heavy stuff bring a trolley.
  • The fairs start at 5:30pm so you will be able to set up at 4:30pm.
  • A light meal will be provided free of charge e.g. sandwiches, piece of cake, fruit juice and tea or coffee.

4. No promotional material in the main area

We are not promoting any university or their programs - we are promoting science. A common table will be provided outside the main hall, where all stall-holders can place their promotional material for the public to take, if they wish. Stall-holders are very welcome to display an A4 sized logo on at their stall; otherwise we would ask that you respect the non-competitive spirit of the event and keep your signage to a minimum.

Previous Science Fairs were great fun for all those who attended. We aim to make each year even better.
